Kidney Stones & Prevention

Kidney, filter for blood, the function is removing waste foodstuffs from the body and creation of urine. Another duty is to helps regulation of electrolyte levels that are important for body function.

Urine drains from the kidney through a narrow tube called the ureter into the bladder. When the bladder fills and there is an urge to urinate, the bladder empties to the outside through the urethra is much wider tube than the ureter.

Kidney Stones are formed by crystallizing of chemicals in the urine. These stones are extremely minute when they form, smaller than a grain of sand, but slowly can grow over time to 1/10 of an inch. The size of the stone doesn't matter as much as where it is located and whether it prevents urine from draining. Urolithiasis is the term that refers to the presence of stones in the urinary tract, while nephrolithiasis refers to kidney stones and ureterolithiasis refers to stones lodged in the ureter.

When the stone sits in the kidney, it infrequently causes troubles, but when it falls into the ureter, it acts like a dam. As the kidney continues to function and make urine, pressure builds up behind the stone and causes the kidney to swell up. This pressure causes the pain of a kidney stone.

Diet is one of numerous factors that can support or reduce kidney stone formation. Other factors are heredity, environment, weight, and drinking of water etc. The body uses food for energy health. After the body uses what it needs, waste foodstuffs in the bloodstream are passed to the kidneys and excreted as urine. Certain foods create wastes that may form crystals in the urinary tract. In some people, the crystals grow into stones and cause so many problems.

We can prevent the kidney stones by drink more water throughout the day. The other activities are eating fewer oxalate-rich foods, choose a diet low in salt and animal protein, continue eating calcium-rich foods, but use caution with calcium supplements etc. Medications can control the level of acidity in urine and may be helpful in people who form certain kinds of stones.

Medications Side Effects – Tramadol Simvastatin Metformin

The
side effects of medication are far more serious than most people realize.

Here I want to talk especially about three medications which I recently read online at one of the famous online health forum sites.

Tramadol: - It could be the right pain management medication for treating your pain. Its similar to Codeine used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain when treatment is needed around the clock. It does work best if your pain is not too severe. For severe pain a stronger medication may be needed.

It’s also known with various names Tramal, Ultram, Mabron, Ralivia, Ryzolt, Tradonal, Tramacet, Tridural, Ultracet, Zamadol, Zydol, & Zytram.

It should be taken properly while following the prescription instructions so as to avoid serious side effects or even death.

Side Effects of Tramadol:-

Constipation, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, occasionally diarrhea, Somnolence, itching, dizziness, sweating and flushing

Simvastatin: - It’s also known as Zocor, used to treat high cholesterol, and may be used in conjunction with diet changes recommended by your doctor.

Side Effects of Simvastatin:-

It should not be given to women of child bearing age who may become pregnant without excellent contraception and a strong indication.

Others are like weakness, muscle pain, excessive aching or pain after physical exertion, or just vague pain all over, liver related issues including elevated liver transaminases and elevated creatine kinase, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence or diarrhea.

Its oral medication that assists in controlling the sugar levels in the blood can be used in combination with insulin or other supplements.

It can also be used in treating polycystic ovary syndrome but people who are prescribed to take this medication are required to undergo regular blood sugar level determination. Although it does not cause the blood sugar level to drop drastically it may cause severe hypoglycemia if used in combination with other anti-diabetic medications.

An oral pill to treat diabetes

diabetes

Researchers have found a alternate for insulin to help treat diabetes orally, replacing painful pricks over 10 years, Erik Helmerhorst, professor at Curtin University, and colleagues looked at three million compounds on pharmaceutical databases to try to follow the molecular map of insulin they found one, and are increasing it to "take the needle out of diabetes".

"Our innovation is the expansion of a new chemical entity, a small drug molecule we have revealed and, developed, that can be taken orally as a tablet to replace insulin per se," said Helmerhorst.

The research has the capability to revolutionise the treatment of diabetes, which is a growing problem worldwide helmerhorst said there was a niche market for their drug molecule to target Type 2 diabetics to help delay the onset of insulin addiction according to a Curtin statement.
